Historical novel “The Librarian — Intrigue at RAF Greenham” by W.F. Whitson is now available. The setting is RAF Greenham Common, UK in the early 1980’s when the Peace Women had camps outside base gates 24/7 to protest the placement of ground launched cruise missiles in Britain. Famous is the Embrace the Base Event in December 1982, which attracted celebrities and 30,000 individuals.
Whitson weaves in the story of a Russian spy who, taking advantage of the disruptions by protesters, uses people from Hungary and Scotland to produce a dirty bomb and deliver it onsite to create panic and contaminate the property making it unusable for years.
Are the spy and his helpers foiled?
W.F. Whitson was the first United States Air Force missile officer assigned to RAF Greenham Common and was there during the period of this novel.
